Clear team guidelines. Your agency or practice should have a written policy on AI use that specifies what is and is not appropriate. Clinicians should not be figuring this out individually — they need clear direction from leadership.
No client data in general AI tools. This is the non-negotiable. If your team is using AI, they need to understand exactly what information is off-limits. HIPAA-compliant AI tools do exist — but they require intentional selection and setup.
Clinician-led use. AI should support clinical judgment, not replace it. Every piece of AI-generated content that touches clinical work should be reviewed and approved by a licensed clinician before it is used.
Starting small. The agencies and practices that integrate AI most successfully do not overhaul everything at once. They start with one low-risk use case — a documentation template, a supervision prep tool, an onboarding system — and build from there.
